Christmas around the World

One of the MANY things I super love about Epcot in the winter is the appearances in the streets of the traditions in the different countries around the World Showcase.

They tell stories about their cultures celebrations.

here are a few pictures of a few story tellers.

Japan, a good place to spend some time

Oh Dear! I posted this and it was supposed to post on the 29th of Oct.

So sorry! Finding pearls again.. Favorite past time. :)

Once again you can tell where we spent a good deal of our time in Epcot, we seem to love the Japan Pavilion! Bet you had no clue hu? Well yes again my daughter was able to get a pearl.

 I also found a new kiosk in Downtown Disney that offers the pick a pearl experience. I did not get to watch anyone actually open a clam here, but I have to speak for the experience in the Japan Pavilion, and we obviously love it. (this is our 3^rd time to do this) What do we love about it? We love the large variety of tanks from which we have to choose from.

We love the ladies that are behind the counter, they are all so sweet and very friendly. We love the crowds, yes, when you are the one that people are cheering for when you get a pearl, it makes it soo much cooler. We LOVE the show!


 We love that you count down to the opening of the shell, then the suspense when the pearl is found, and  then the sizing of the pearl as they measure it and it seems they always start a few sizes too small so that you are excited to see it be bigger than you expected.

Then they show it to everyone, look at her pearl they say. Then they beat the little drum and have a little ceremony celebrating your find. The celebration right before ours was celebrating a double pearl, we have also seen black pearls too. All in all it is another one of our favorite experiences, yes it costs around $15 but it is worth the excitement and fun that comes with the experience. We cannot quite decide if we want to be Pixies or Pirates.

2010 Window decorations

 Once again it is time to start looking froward to our family's upcoming trip to Walt Disney World Resort (R). As we are counting down I am remembering all of the little things we have done in the past to up the magic moments for my little people. One of the things we have done is to decorate our room window. After a long day of super fun in the parks we don't have to look very hard to find our room.

Every year those traveling with 3D Travel Company's Ultimate Field Trip (UFT) to Walt Disney World Resort(r) decorate their resort windows.

Here is a peek at our window from UFT 2010.

We chose a Pirate theme and had a "real" pirate treasure chest in our room! 

Every day I would pull a little paper baggie for each child, and sometimes my husband too out of the treasure chest.

these bags included things like this...

 We have done the Pirate theme for many visits, and it just doesn't get old. What can I say Bubba teeth are just too much fun,especially when talking like a pirate.

 And this...

 I wrapped her Cinderella dress so she could wear it for this...

 And well, who says Bubba teeth are just for the kids. Who knows when they might show up.

Arghhh Matey!

Oreo Bon Bons in my kitchen!

So here they are,

~the good (tasting)

~the bad, (if I would've made the topping myself)

~and the ugly, before the Bon Bon fashion advisor got to them.

filling:
16 oz. heavy cream
6 egg yolks
16 oz. white chocolate
2 T. powdered gelatin placed in 2 oz. cold water
1 dozen Oreo cookies, crumbled
3 dozen Oreo cookies, whole

Topping:
(I cheated!)
16 oz. dark chocolate
16 oz. heavy cream

for the filling: Melt the chocolate.
Whip the cream until consistency of ice cream.

Place gelatin in cold water. Heat egg yolks until warm;

add chocolate, stirring constantly.
Place the gelatin in microwave until gelatin is dissolved.
 

Add 1/3 of the heavy cream to the egg yolk and white chocolate mixture

 mix well.

Add a bit of the cream to the heated gelatin and mix well.

Then add both the gelatin and the chocolate mixture to the remaining whipped cream and fold until incorporated.

Smash the cookies used for the filling in any manner you choose...

I chose this.

sprinkle in smashed cookies,

look who decided to show up!

I was so excited!

I hope he will stay for some Bon Bons.

Mix it up really well, no cookie chunks wanted here.

Let mousse set up, around 2 to 4 hours.

At this point I am what you call a "cheater"

can you see why?

Yes I went to DQ and got their shell chocolate dip in a cup.

This was way more than enough.

Can you imagine a 20 oz cup of warm chocolate?

I laid my Oreos out and scooped on the filling, this wasn't working too well, so I filled a baggie with filling and squeezed a dollop on each cookie.

Yes, I know they aren't beautiful.

It just makes me appreciate the beauty, and yummyness of the "real" thing.

I dipped one by one into the pool of warm chocolate coating.

Some lucky Bon Bons got a double dunk to coat.

Here is what my daughter decided to do to help in the Bon Bon fashion dept.

And the platter full of Bon Bon goodness!

I made a ton of these, the recipe makes alot.

I used the extra filling and lined a pie plate with Oreos, and filled the pie plate with filling and then topped it with a pool of chocolate.

I offered this at a potluck meal and it was gone before Tink could flutter by!

So here is the Chocolate topping recipe that I did not use, I have to say I have NEVER gotten chocolate to harden EVER.

So after the labor intensive filling making and piping I headed to DQ for their magic sauce.

I didn't want to risk a complete messy gooey ending.

Chocolate topping:

melt the dark chocolate into the cream, until combined.  Dip Oreos into chocolate.

This recipe makes 3 dozen of these little pieces of Oreo heaven.

Warning!!!!  Don't try to eat them all, you will be sick if you do. But I have to say all that work was well worth the taste of these, just like Cape May Cafe...

Ahhh I just cannot wait until September when I can have a real Oreo Bon Bon, without all the work.

Cape May Cafe to be exact.

Well, the Oreo Bon Bons to be very specific.

look to the left tucked away in the back there.

Who doesnt love the middle of an Oreo?

Think of all the open faced chocolate cookies in the kitchen laying there empty, because someone scraped all the middles out to pile them here on this bon bon.

So maybe that is not how they make them... But it is a silly mental picture!

Here are some other fun things my children enjoyed at Cape May Cafe.

A big plate of Mac & Cheese makes my little one happy.

And yes there is Perry again. with his self portrait, doesn't he look fabulous!

And then my big artist.

He dreams of working for Disney some day.

I have to say he is pretty darn good.

He ate fast so he would have time to draw.

The cookie that ate Daddy..

Ok, well maybe it is the cookie Daddy ate...

Today my Hubby is remembering his Cookie Sandwich...

I was talking with a new friend about the ice cream sandwiches,

I knew that I wanted one. 

He stated that he had already had one that day, and it was great. 

 So I waited...

I waited all day...

and all afternoon for the perfect ice cream sandwich.

The time when I knew it would be better than any commercial for a fast food hamburger!

(This is Cindy editing here... fast food?

I would've written Blissful chocolate, but that just wasn't masculine enough...well you get it.) 
 

Then it was here, it was the perfect time to eat the mondo, uber sized ice cream sandwich. 

When it came time to get ready to gather the fam. around the flag pole and watch Wishes at the Magic Kingdom. 

I snuck into the Bakery and used one of my snack credits to redeem my ever so longed for ice cream sandwich. 

 placed it in a to-go box and scurried off to meet the fam. next to the flag pole. 

My friends Wife yelled at him for selfishly eating one of those ice cream sandwiches earlier in the day while he was by himself, and he stated , "I didn't have that one!"
He actually ate the little one that is sold at the ice cream carts for one snack credit. 

 BIG difference.

 All in all, I made everyone totally jealous and everyone wanted to be me for a moment.

See it does pay to have an agent looking out for your best interest even if it is just a snack!

(Yes he gave me one very SMALL bite.)

And then continued some "race against the clock" to finish it in like 2 minutes.

 I will never really understand men when it comes to food. but that was one good sandwich!

The bite I had was wonderful, and will get one to share on my next trip.

As for Daddy...

 Well he may have to get his own again.

And honestly I have no clue what is up with the glow sticks in the hat?

Maybe it is a new fashion statement!

A memory of my first trip to Walt Disney World

 

I have heard a photo is worth a thousand words.

I was a teenager on my first trip to Walt Disney World.

 My eyes were opened to the magic that I had adored in Disney films and toys for many years.

The magic of the songs in films came to life around me it was not just a cartoon but a larger than life fantasy. It really does just seem like yesterday that Toy Story braved the new world of computer animation.

Disney has a way of making you feel like a kid again no matter how old you are.

It is an amazing memory to recall my first taste of Walt Disney World it was a truly magical experience.
